Wedding makeovers are a little more involved than usual makeovers. Here is some practical advice to help you get organized.
Start by identifying the key color scheme at the wedding as this will help you to determine lip, cheek and nail colors. Most weddings fall into one of three color schemes, usually dependent on the color of the flowers and bridesmaids’ dresses.
• Pink, covering all shades of pink, lilac and shimmering silver.
• Peach, covering all shades of apricot, creams, glistening gold and browns.
• Red, especially popular for winter weddings, covering all shades of red and burgundy.
Always aim to create a modern classic look rather than following the latest trends to ensure that you can look back on your special day with fondness. Remember the best wedding make-up is when the bride looks natural and glowing, like her usual self only better.
Ten steps to creating the perfect look:
1. Check that the skin is well prepared and in good condition. Apply a thin layer of High Lights Illuminating Lotion all over the face.
2. Apply a thin layer of foundation. Stay Perfect Foundation is great.
3. Next apply Blush Tint Cream to the apples of the cheeks and blend well to create a natural flush of color. Choose the shade depending on the color theme you are going for.
4. Concealer is the next step. First apply Radiant Glow Concealer to under-eye shadows, around the nose as needed and anywhere else where shadows appear. Blend well with fingers. Then, using a concealer brush, apply regular concealer to spots, blemishes and areas of pigmentation. Make sure the concealer is exactly the same color as the skin, mixing two shades together if necessary.
5. Apply a thin layer of powder all over the face.
6. Keep the eye make-up simple. Steer away from strong color. Instead go for definition over color, using a neutral palette. Stay Perfect Shadow Palette in "Cappuccino" is great for this. Line the eye subtly close to the lashes with either black or brown.
7. Curl the eyelashes well and apply a good coat of black mascara to give the eyes a well-defined, wide open look.
8. Groom the eyebrows well. Pencil and fill in any gaps. Set with Lash and BrowPerfector.
9. Apply a thin layer of lip liner all over the lips and discreetly outline. Use a shade identical to the lip color or lighter (never darker). Choose a shade of lipstick in keeping with the overall color theme. Then using a lip brush, apply two thin layers of lip color to the lips, choose a good modern classic shade (e.g. for a ‘pink themed’ wedding use a subtly pink or a classic rose shade). Finish with a small amount of lip gloss (this is optional). Don’t over-gloss the lips. Not only will the make-up look dated, but it won’t last the ceremony.
10. Step back, look in the mirror and add a sheer wash of powder blusher as white dresses can be quite draining on the skin. Not only will this give a lovely glow, but it will also help the blush to stay. Finish off with a final dusting of powder, paying particular attention to the t-zone.
Throughout the day, keep on hand a translucent powder, cotton swabs (for cleaning any smudges), your lipstick and a retractable lip brush for a good long lasting application. If you have a make-up artist doing your make-up on your wedding day, be sure to have a trial run through to make sure you are happy and comfortable with the look.
